Unfortunately MAD Max (as stunning an achievement as it is) seems to have severe limitations
in handling mp3-packages, most obviously in collaboration with Paul's ATA driver. That crashing
business I have experienced too though it's not as readily happening with me as with you. Here's
my setup.

- MAD Max stored *internally* an m y MP2100
- SanDisk 1GB Ultra II CF card, divided into four partitions/stores via ATA driver

For uploading files I first get them on a 20 MB linear card via NCU and then
on the SanDisk card via MAD Max. Not an easy and quick process, but I happen
to have a backup 2100 which can do this to keep my main machine unblocked.

What I can do this way:

- transfer music and audiobook/radioplay files to my SanDisk card
- listen to them after mounting the partitions in question.

What I can't do:

- Scroll the list packages present with confidence. Sometimes MAD Max
will crash the Newton doing so, battery pack has to be removed and reinserted
to start again

- Delete single or mp3-packages from stores. This *will* both crash the Newt
and ruin the partition on which said packages were residing. Single or multiple packages
can be added though to existing ones on working partitions through the process
described above. If I want get rid though of audiobooks/radioplays I already listened
to I will have to erase the whole partition. Under these circumstances my music
collection will have to be a permanent one, with the odd addition now and then.
