Oh, the earlier message made it sound like it was a tradeoff between getting
the SER-001 or risking a crack in the case. The raison-d'etre for a SER-001
is to avoid using the built-in serial connection as it is reputed to come
away from the mother board with repeated usage.

Consequently the tradeoff is really between having a reliable serial
connection versus a cosmetic crack in the case.
