Also,

Mac modem cable (miniDIN8-DB25) + null modem = working Newton serial cable.
I used to use a *real* null modem - a black box made by DEC with a verrrrry
simple circuit board (hand-drawn traces) and two DB-25F connectors. A Mac
modem cable on one end and a DB25F-F straight through on the other worked great.
