Yes, if wired correctly. But you are now also telling the Newton that
it is safe to charge the cells in the battery tray, make sure that
it is safe, in addition to the thermister there is also a temperature
fuse. Frank Gruendel discussed this issue a couple of months ago.
This hack can also set the stage for charging non-NiMH cells. So be
careful.
