I do like the idea of using extra space for storing things (esp.
extra batteries). However, I think a more aesthetic effect could be
created with foam-board (perhaps wrapped in some material like fake
suede or), and a zip-closed notebook (with any "clip-ring" mechanism
for holding paper removed). Cutting thru the foam could easily hide
any connections, and allow them to be permanent (which was probably
not possible using a hollowed out book). And, move the keyboard
toward the "spine" to produce a more modern (or Mac-like) format
(especially if all foam is topped/covered with a (semi)rigid
plastic). Finally, I would prefer a different "keeper" from ribbon -
perhaps clear fish-line in a heavy gauge, or even something more
industrial built into the "spine" of the cover.
In any event, this is certainly good food for thought using almost
any Newt, but esp. a 2x00 in landscape, and might also result with
only slight modification to an existing Newt-case...
