I am sure that this could be made a setting. It would need to be
smart though, because backups, that the user is not aware of, tend to
be overwritten in an emergency and become useless. It would also add
to synchronisation time.

For this particular task, you probably need more C or C++. Newton
Script however is great and easy! If you know shell scripting, you'd
likely have an easier start then learning the language from scratch.
