I noticed that too. How ironic then that your name on the from line is
similarly garbled:

From: "=?UTF-8?B?VGhvbWFzIEJyYW5k?=" <thomasbrand@mac.com>

I don't know how to translate that, only that the give-away is the initial
equals sign, question mark, and UTF-8.

I see this a lot om mail from PCs. Apparently Outlook and possibly other
Windows mail clients assume that everyone in the world can deal with
Unicode text, and happily allow users to send mail formatted with font
attributes.

Try poking around in your mail client's send or compose defaults and see if
you can select Plain ASCII as the format for outgoing mail. Everyone on
this list should do this.
