[NTLK] Mail V Hangs While Storing

I am using Mail V version 5.2.1 with POP3 service. After successfully reading the first message it hangs with the status dialog displaying "Storing." To continue I must tap "Stop" which ends the session. The message is in the In Box and deleted from the server. How can I fix this?
