This past weekend I replaced the 3.686 MHz crystal in my backup 2100
with a 5 MHz, actually both are there for times when IR or Serial are
wanted.
I followed Stephanie's instructions <http://www.felesmagus.com/newton/2100fast.html

Instead of cutting into the case for a switch, I drilled and chiseled
out the center of the square plug that fills the empty slot under the
port door.
I then cut out a section of the jumper panel from an old HD and
carefully glued this into the plug. Switching speed is accomplished
by moving from one set of pins to the other.
A 35+ % speed increase is certainly nice.
My Lucent Wavelan turbo silver still works as before and my 3COM xjack
wired card works.
