Thank you Don
I installed Desktop on the Newt and was successful at transferring a range
of items as text using HyperTerminal, which is already installed as part of
XP. A cool feature is the 'capture text' which allows you to allocate a file
on the PC and whatever you keeping sending to the desktop is added to that
file.
This may prove to be quite useful at work.
Firstly I don't need to install anything on the work computer to send info
to, only attach the serial cable. (loading anything other than the set
software is a sackable offence!)
Secondly if someone wants say 10 of my contacts I just check them, send to
Desktop and email across the one file.
I did notice that the instructions suggest: 7 bits and 1.5 bit stops but
that gave rise to an error message saying problem with com port 1. Using 8
bits and 1 bit stops seems to work fine. (Not that I know what these means
anyway).
I wasn't able to send anything back to the New though, should this be
possible using this app?
Thanks
Andy
"Desktop" is a transport that you install on your Newton that allows
you to route information in the same way as for 'mail' or 'print' -
through the routing (envelope) menu button. It uses serial protocol,
so you need to have a cable hook-up to your host computer, and a
terminal program to capture the data from the port. As with mail or
print, you can send 'now' or 'later'. It can also work with Sloup
(formerly Slurpee) to
