I am sure many of you have heard this already, for those that have not, I found an interview with Steve Capps, Newton programmer as well as original Macintosh programmer.  He discusses working for Apple in the early 80s, as well as working on the Newton.  Of note, he mentions that Jobs was thinking of a mac phone in 1985, and that the Newton was to have 3 processors and "do everything".  Additionally, that they wanted to put a sub-woofer in the Newton to improve the sound, where reps from Bose came out to discuss sound with the team.
Reality set in and the Newton was scaled down from Gigantic to just large.  Here is the link to the interview:
