It's been discussed many times, but I don't believe anyone will be
implementing one any time soon. At one point someone was working on a
port of PuTTY <http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/>,
but it was never released and I'm not sure how much progress was ever
made.

Unfortunately, PT100 is quite slow, even on a MessagePad 2100, and
this is considered to be very fast compared to competitors of the
time. I think adding SSL support to something like that, or trying to
port another library, would have very poor results (at least
initially).

A couple people have also mentioned interest in porting various SSL
libraries to the Newton, but no progress was made on those either.
Those would be most useful as they could be utilized to add SSL
support to browsers such as Courier as well as a Terminal emulator.
