You know what, if today's active Newton programmers weren't so lazy it would be possible to do everything on 1.x that you can do on 2.x. Sure, the API in 1.x is more limited, but it's not impossible.
And by the way, many of the features that are built-in to 2.x have been replicated for 1.x.

There's no Y2010 bug because there's no Newton OS 2.0 capability. The
MP110 is a fine device indeed, but I'd have trouble living without
many of the features of the 2.0 operating system.
