I am referring to Safari Beta, and by favorites pane I actually meant, officially, the Top Sites pane.

A pictoral grid of your 12 top sites, which changes depending on the sites you visit. The grid contains a picture of each of your top 12 sites.

No need to type, just click one, or in the case of the tablet, just touch the one you want to go to.

By "Apple's Safari Favorites pane" do you mean the bookmarks bar? or
