Just one man's opinion but there will never be an Apple Tablet per say, well
at least not one even closely related to the Messagepad. I certainly don't
want to start any kind of heated debate, but they always have and always
will cater to a very small target market. I as well as others that enjoy the
form actor and have learned to maximize its benefits are not a large enough
group to expend millions in R&D to develop a device that will only provide a
small return for itself and developers of required software.
I believe we have had discussions before that pertain to the elusiveness of
said Messagepad and tablet users, something likened to spotting Bigfoot in
the wild. So I ask myself "Why is this ?", well it probably has something to
do with that fact that tablets for the average person are for viewing
content, not creating it or editing it. They are certainly not the front
runner in the arsenal of any person who's main objective is to create
content. In my 25 years working with computers I have yet to meet any
animator, graphic designer, programmer, designer, etcetera who owns a tablet
as their main input device, myself included. As with anything there are
exceptions to the rule, just ask any Messagepad user and they will certainly
illustrate a desire to own and use such a device, but alas therein lies
our quandary. We are a special group, and along with other special groups
(tablet pc users, hackintosh or otherwise) do not comprise a large enough
demographic to ever see our dreams come to fruition.
