Does BB not activate iPads on the spot as a matter of course?

IOW: if I buy one, does asking BB to activate it on the spot fall into the realm of "special favor?"  Or is it an option that all customers are given (i.e. every customer is asked, "Want to us to activate your new iPad right now?")
