A guy from the next office told me of his time in Japan where a friend had to go to China to monitor an assembly line and ended up staying for about 6 months longer than expected. After a couple of months of not paying his rent, all of his belongings were packaged up and placed neatly beside the sidewalk in front of his apartment building. They sat there, for 4-6 months, patiently waiting for him to come back. Nothing was taken, nothing was disturbed - you don't walk off with stuff that isn't yours.
That is the kind of world I want to live in.
