Thanks, Christian. I have a small device from Kensington for detecting WiFi, but only as LEDs to show its presence and strength. The device you mention would be much better...sometimes the staff doesn't know the SSID, they just say "sign on when it comes up on your device".

Sitting in the parking lot accessing someone's WiFi? Come on now...who does THAT? I can't remember all the times I sat outside hotels and restaurants with the iPAQ accessing Google maps through WiFi, before I got a GPS....
