Welcome aboard.

Have you tried putting a screen protector over it?  Sometimes doing that masks
the scuff marks and gives you a pristine surface to write on.

Sounds like you have got everything else pretty much thought through but this
might save you some expense (unless you're committed to trying out the screen
replacement.)

AFAIR Frank's website has some good instructions about screen replacements and a
good walkthrough
