This device can't replace anything but an iPhone or Touch, it's not a stand
alone device and never will be. It' completely crippled by the fact that you
always need another computer to put content on it, well that is unless you
like only books, movies and mp3's from Itunes. No media slot, what kind of
backasswards idea was that, Oh wait you can by an external sd slot, to sync
photos, woopiddy-doo. The general public balking Ryan because they just
don't understand what it is. Come on man, I think you owe everyone in here
an apology for that statement. Seriously though you probably owe every
techie freak out there who has even made a comment on it so far because the
only ppl that actually even know it exists.

Here we go, the typical "it's not a Newton so it's cr at p!!" thread.
I can look at the above and think in some cases "If only the Newton were half as useable in some of those areas"
The iPad gets a SD card slot. You know what the Newton got? A serial cable. In one case I can transfer a Mp3 via SD card in 15 seconds (or less) while on the Newton I can transfer a mp3 (yes my favorite analogy) in 15 minutes.
The Newton was not really meant to be a standalone device either. It was all about portable reading, note taking, etc. It was designed to communicate with the PC or Mac. Most Newton files are compressed in .sit format or .zip. The .sit uncompressor was not written and the unzip was not released till years later by Newton fans.
Face it, the iPad has COLOR, more speed, more readable space, better connection to the internet and better browser, AN SD SLOT, faster than the Newton, and can probably (based on the iPhone and iTouch) play Mp3's and... MOVIES.
Ok, let's not go into how this is not a Newton, because quite frankly the Newton is not a iPad either.
