There used to be a Newton Book reader add on for firefox, but I don't  
believe that it is still compatible.

You can however  view the text in Newton Books with Text Editor in Mac  
osX.
You can also use MSWord.

I am not familiar enough with Ubuntu or windows tools to make any  
recommendations.
