My experience with Newton rechargeable batteries is to use NiMH cells in battery packs that I have rebuilt myself...Frank (Gruendel) has an excellent how-to guide on this. If you've had any soldering experience (some basic electronic knowledge is also a bit of a help), and are relatively precise in your work, you should have no problems. It's actually quite satisfying to open up an old NiMH cell pack and rebuild it. His site is found at http://www.pda-soft.de/hardware.html . Just click on the link appropriate for your machine.

I was very fortunate to have (somehow) lucked upon a still-usable original MP2100 NiMH rechargeable battery pack...which, even after many rechargings in the past year still is holding up (and it's at least 14 years old!)...so there might be others out there. Also, many users charge their NiMH cells (Eveready and Ray-O-Vac, for example) in a wall unit, and then use the becoming-even-more-rare-daily AA battery tray to get them into the Newton.
