My first car was a 64' Mustang -- actually a 64.5 (which was an
important distinction, I think). It was "poppy orange" which really meant
orange, and it was in immaculate condition. I was 16 and took my driving
test in it.

To illustrate both the way in which the teenage brain is often not ready to
make important decisions, and the infinite tolerance of parents: I asked my
dad (who it really belonged to, of course) if I could sell the mustang to
buy a VW bug. I was fancying myself a beatnicky sort, and the mustang was
way too bling. He agreed. I sold it and bought a 74' VW bug. I don't think
I recognized the magnitude of what he did until I was twenty or so. I still
(20 years later) apologize frequently.
