I don't think it would be difficult to use some Commercial Off the Shelf
(COTS) metal connectors and design them into an updated, 3D printable
version for both the Alkaline battery tray and the rechargeable battery
tray--with a little bit more space engineered into the rechargeable tray
for the additional clearance needed for the slightly larger capacity NiMHs
we're using.
