I'm sorry that I can't provide an exact link--but if you search the Archives you'll see that in the past, this topic has led to some informative discussions.
Yes, you are correct in your belief that the lack of wifi security and a hidden SSID makes the Newton connection relatively safe...but one of the problems with this idea--as was pointed out in the discussions--is that it would still be possible that one could use a wifi "sniffer" to obtain and hack into your connection.
While this was a conceded point, the general consensus was that it was very unlikely that anything you were using your Newton for (or, if possible to view its contents) could have any value to anyone besides yourself. Obviously online banking is not a real possibility, nor are any "secure" transactions, due to the age of the Newton's available browsers. And again, obviously, sending data of a secure nature through email that is not a part of a highly secured business network is a questionable policy even on modern machines.
I would urge that you seek out more on this topic here, Pawel. You have a good insight into things that could only be enhanced with more information.
