I vote number three. It remains true to the original concepts of the Newton and still gives us almost complete control.

In a perfect world, Apple would finally open-source “ink” even as they are deprecating it in MacOS. That would be the ideal solution.

*but* speaking of hardware, maybe we should be thinking of an eMate-type product, the eMate 1000 (which was what the rumoured business eMate was supposed to be called) and try and work out the HWR once that’s done...
