[NTLK] Cables!!!!????

I am confused, again.  I have a Messagepad keyboard that came with a round adapter to that plugs into top slot on the Newton, if that helps. Now, what other cable do i need to plug my Newton to my laptop/desktop PC?  

I have read several documents about this and most assume I know what an RS242 and a RS422 and a 8-pin and 9-pin adapter are, but I certainly don't! How many cables are we talking about?
