[NTLK] Newton 2000 and External Keyboard

Hello,

I have had a Newton 2000 in my closet for a while with an external keyboard but have been missing the serial adapter.  I just purchased a serial adapter off of an auction and connected my Newton to the keyboard for the first time.  However, even after I place the caret to type, and press some keys, nothing appears on the screen.  An auto-dock message comes up which I dismiss.  Am I doing something incorrectly?  Do I need to install (or uninstall) any packages?  I am sorry for being so new to this.  Any help would be very appreciated.
