Efficient noise reduction? Remember that a high-speed (by this I mean
greater than 9600bps) modem is used to running on a relatively clean
copper wire. It can error-correct, but this only happens occasionally.
When someone accidentaly picks up the phone line while I'm using my modem,
it takes anywhere from 3-10 seconds for the connection to correct
itself... if this was happening almost constantly you wouldn't be able to
get any data through. So the physical design would have to fit TIGHTLY to
the phone reciever, and probably also use some noise-cancellation
circuitry.
