I know about the companies that have offered to buy it - but thats subtely
different from it still being apple's but opensource. Instead of another
company rebranding and calling it "theirs" apple gets the credit, it gets
the community goodwill and it gets people demanding GREAT hardware
devices produced by apple's human interface designers to run the OS/HWR
system on.
I also have not heard of anyone asking apple for the code. Can you show me
a link to an article or email about it? I'd love to know. I know I may be
tilting at windmills but I guess the whole thing is that when you have not
a lot of other options there is no harm in trying. Giving up and saying
"they'll never do it" gets you nowhere, at least there is the chance that
apple will say "yah, thats a good idea" or even "hmm, we didn't know
anyone gave a damn about those things, why don't we start making them
again".
I really love the newton, I'd like to be able to love it on newer hardware
or possibly be able to add a feature to the os.
