All the Newton have the ability to connect to a computer. The only thing you
might need would be a serial cable.
$175 seems quite reasonable, specially if the eMate is in good shape. You
might want to inquire as to whether this eMate has had his memory upgraded
or not. Depending on the use, the additional memory can make a lot of
difference, based on various comments posted by eMate owners.
