NOt bad idea with the fax thing.
My goal was to get familiar with the newton programming as I have done Win Dos and apple and other but nothing for Newton=
The goal of course long term would be to support more scanners but again the short term goal is to have fun creating s=
omething for the newton and gain experience I can use in the future to develope much more capable products.
Driver support is the #1 thing a newton user wants right now. More devices more expandability etc.
Doing something simple like this "assuming data capture from the serial port is 'easy' on the newton'" would allow me to =
slowly work up to the harder projects more people will benifit from.
BTW the scanner is readily availible in quanity of 100's on ebay and other resellers. It's only about $19.99-$34.99 also=
The driver of course would be free so it's not a bad start to help out a few people.

I think your work would be nice and interesting but probably not very
helpful to most Newton users. How many will have access to exactly that
model of scanner you'll write the driver for? Probably only a handfull,
since most scanners are for SCSI or USB.
Another approach which I use from time to time and which is much easier
and sort of standard is to use a normal fax machine and fax whatever has
to be scanned to your Newton. Okay its not colour nor greyscale but for
texts it is okay. Who'll need colours anyway on a Newton?
