if i recall correctly, there was a distinction between "WaveLAN" and
"WaveLAN IEEE".

i believe that the plain WaveLAN was NOT IEEE compliant. it was
available in either 900MHz or 2.4GHz versions, and was originally sold
by NCR, then AT&T and maybe by Lucent. the Digital RoamAbout DS was a
clone of this hardware.

WaveLAN IEEE is newer, 802.11-compliant, hardware. it is possible to
interwork WaveLAN IEEE cards (at 2Mbps) with Orinoco, Airport and
other IEEE 802.11b cards, but the original, proprietary WaveLAN
is be a different story.
