Uh, no such questions regarding GUIs! Once you start that way, you will be
back to the command line very quickly!
I use a hack on OSX that deactivates the shadows, and it does improve the
overall speed quite a lot, especially as I am running OSX on an iBook 600.
The good: No shadows mean more speed.
The bad: The OS does not look half as good, pull-downs optically blend with
windows...
The very good: I have an excellent AQUA Scheme for OS9 that gives me lots of
speed and still has shadows & transparancy *g*
