You're assuming that all real work requires a keyboard.

I do a fair amount of CAD and that would be very nice on a tablet, so would
sketching, drawing, photo editing, reading, viewing web sites and querying
databases.

Like the Newt, a tablet would be a good research tool to replace a paper
notebook.

The physical manifestation of a tablet is currently hampered by the power
demands of current circuitry but this will change.
