I opted for something slightly different, but have never had a problem with.
I went to Radio Shack and glued two roughy Newton-width sized pieces of
velcro the under side of my 2000, then did the opposite to the inside of my
altered planner case. Never had a problem with the Newton become unseated in
travel or in use (at angles, etc). Cut and paste the following links into
your URL locator (sorry for the rez, the pics were taken with a Quicktake
200)

I *never* to a chance on the elastic straps deal, even when I had that case:

ASIDE: I just came back from The Apple Store, picked up an iBook (800MHz,
combo drive, 12.1 display). In figuring out whether or not to go with the
bigger display, I whipped out the MP to figure out the price diff, taxes,
etc. The salesman, wide-eyed, said.."Oh you've got a Newton, they're still
pretty popular!" I agreed, mentioned the still large user base, and of
course, Newtontalk. ;-)
