Re: [NTLK] Where to get Newton fonts as PC TrueType fonts

Frank,

Espy Sans and Espy Serif both were commissioned by Apple expressly for use in the MessagePad. There was intent to incorporate those fonts, or at least Espy Sans, into Mac System 7 OS, but it was never carried out. Howver, the font was embedded into various parts of the OS like help pages and the like.

To my knowledge Apple still controls the rights to these fonts and has never officially released a scalable version of either. Knockoffs have been produced (Nu Sans, Jubal Sans, et. al.) but I don't know how faithful they are to the original. I also don't think they are in Windows format, so they would need to be converted, is it's possible, since the two I mentioned are shareware fonts.

As for the Geneva and New York, as long as the underlying font definitions are the dame, then a Windows TT file should work okay for previewing the finished product on a Newton.

Unfortuantely I've yet to discover a reliable conversion program to make Mac TrueType font files out of Windows TTF files, and I also have no way of testing the reverse procedure.

Hope this is of some help.

Len
