[NTLK] Audio In/Out Adaptor and Keyboard

My solution for the Audio In/Out was to make one cable for Audio in, and another for Audio out. We added the wire for the audio in and out, quite simple. It was the soddering that was the fun part. Then we added a capasitor to have the Newton recognize when an adaptor was plugged in (IE... powerup when the connector was added).

Maybe someone can answer for me... is it possible to get the connectors from Kensington still? I tried to call them a while back with no luck. I have a few extra.

In truth, the Audio In/Out capabilities are good for a lot of things. A 8 meg card will store a album worth of audio information for example, though there will be a lot of skipping and it will sound worse than a AM radio. But I still do this... even with being able to use MP3's.

Audio out is good for porting sound to tapes, or having sound out for speakers and headphones. The audio out speakers need to be amplified.

As for the keyboard... wondered that myself. Supposedly Apple was working on something like that. Anyone have an idea where you would connect such a keyboard inside the Newton? I'm guessing is at the same place where the SER-001 goes.

Here's a theory. The Newton keyboard is a serial device. What we would need to do is to get a small palmtop style keyboard, and if their keyboard is a serial input style keyboard in design, you could connect it through the knockout, and wire it to that port the SER-001 goes to. It might knock out the use of the SER-001, but at least you wouldn't have to connect up a keyboard again. :)

      And there you go.

PS: I've been working on the Newton MP3 for Idiot's guide, so sit tight! :)

I was wondering if anybody sells an Audio In/Out adaptor? If not,
maybe someone is willing to make/sell some... the instructions are here
(http://www.eskimo.com/~millerd/nicadapter/)... I would personally find
that very useful. Also, has anybody made a keyboard that could attach
to where the door is (ie knockout the piece that provides a space for a
ribbon cable, on the right side of a 2100/2000 (I'm not sure about
other models,)?)
