I asked a buddy of mine, who might be in a position to know, about how much he knew of sherlock's impact upon watson - and he told me:

----------
Not much. I know that sales of Watson suffered dramatically soon after
Sherlock was released, but they recovered slowly. To what level I don't
know. But then, have you seen much development coming out of Watson
lately. I think that answers the question.

And in my opinion Watson was a superior product, with more tools, and
updated more often than Sherlock was.
----------

i use both, and like both, but sherlock is indeed way too close to watson's concept.
