[NTLK] Emate

Hello, Newtoneers.

I have been a list lurker for years now (Could it be 7 years? I started on
the list when it was on the PlanetNewton site, before the Newt was
cancelled). My first Newton was a 120. My 2000 then 2100 became my constant
companion (well, I didn't take it to the bathtub). I'm sorry to say that I
defected to the Palm platform when the software I needed was no longer
available for the Newt (although there isn't a day goes by without me
wishing for the Newts HWR). Also, my continued problems with the jaggies
became frustrating. I have replaced my screens at least 4 or 5 times over
the years, and my current front-line 2100 has developed the jaggies also. I
suspect taking them almost everywhere I went in a fanny pack had something
to do with this.

I have wanted an eMate for a while. I don't have any need for one, I have
just been impressed by how cool they are. I finally just broke down and
bought some inexpensive ones from eBay just for fun. Neither will hold a
charge, so I guess I'm going to have to rebuild the batteries (thank you,
whoever put the detailed battery instructions together).

My first question is: Can anybody recommend cool software for kids? I have a
daughter who is eleven who I think will really dig the eMate if I can get it
running well.

Second, how necessary is the memory upgrade? Is it a power-user kind of
thing, or can just about everybody benefit from it?

Thanks

Andy Reed
