[NTLK] Making a AA battery case?

My MessagePad 2000's battery isn't really a great
performer, and I'd rather not pay 20-30 bucks for an
original battery tray for M2x00s. Is it possible to
make a AA battery tray, either by removing the actual
original batteries from the case (I'm assuming they're
quasi-cells or paste-bags) or some kind of kit/Lego
parts or whatnot?
