Well, you're running into two different issues:

(1) The MessagePad 2000 is constrained on heap compared to the
2000U/2100 (1MB vs 4MB of RAM) so you'll really want to try to pick up
a 2000U or 2100 if you want to do serious (for a Newton) web browsing

(2) None of the Newton web browsers support Java*, JavaScript, Flash,
or SSL, so you won't be able to use any sites that require them. If
they're designed to degrade gracefully and don't require any
authentication, then you should still be able to read content, but
that's it.

* - While Java is not supported in Newton browsers, there is a
slimmed-down Java environment available for many PDAs (including the
Newton) called Waba, but it's more for applets.
