basically, installed apps use some system heap, and any open app can use
much more (and is supposed to release most when closed again). you should
be able to maximize heap by freezing apps that you use infrequently.
periodically (or if you get the message "Newton does not have enough free
memory...") you may want to do a soft reset (button in back) to free up
heap since some may have become inaccessible. a "hard" reset (aka
brainwipe) should only be necessary if storage itself has become badly
fragmented (and after you've done a complete backup).
