Gavin, NewtonQuake was, sadly, only an April 1st joke. Quake never ran on the
Newton, and will probably never run, sorry.

Carefully read the infos on Newton Resources
<http://www.chuma.org/newton/docs/avi-backdrop-npress.shtml> about how to make
an Avis' Backdrop background. For one thing, the file shouldn't be renamed A!:,
that's the unique ISBN that should be renamed. Obviously, on a Mac, you won't
use PaintShop Pro, but something else. I've been using PhotoShop 4.0 LE on my
B&W. Initially, I was converting the pictures from colors to grayscale, then
reduce the number of grays from 256 to 4. But at some point, I did experiment
with copying the picture from PhotoShop and pasting it directly in NewtonPress
and NewtonPress just converted the picture automatically to 4 grays. So, the
only thing you should still do is reduce the picture size to the dimensions on
Victor's page. You can name your book whatever you want, but make sure the
unique ISBN reads "A!:" (without the quotes).

Good luck!

-Laurent.
