Ah. I was saying that NIE 1.1 supplemented by Newton Devices, NIE Ethernet, and the appropriate driver still works for TCP/IP over ethernet, as some people on this list have reported in the past. Of course, you still need a 2.1 device, and YOU lose the hew features in NIE 2.0 (like DHCP) but it uses less storage and heap.
