NewtFriends,
Equiptment: Newton 2000 upgraded to 2100
OS: 2.1
Apple NIMH rechargable battery pack #H0163
Newton 9W Power Adaptor #H0165
Before I took a trip out of the country (USA North) to the Dominican
Republic (DR), where the electric power is inconsistant in both supply and
quality, my Newton battery was giving me upto 14 days use on a charge.
In the DR often when power is available it is less than 110 VAC somewhere
at 80 or 90 VAC, so I used a line conditioner which I was told would prevent
spikes, surges, voltages greater than 110 VAC and do it's best to raise the
power to the standard 110 although I suspect that it was not able to raise
the power at all times.
I guess this because an audio CD would randomly not be able to track a CD yet
other times the same one worked perfectly.
While inthe DR the battery would not hold a charge for more than 2 days so
for most of the trip I used alkalines except for emailing which the alkalines
did not seem to be able to do.
Now that I'm back I' finding that the original rechargable battery lasts
less than a day. A back up battery that I bought almost a year ago from OZ
and never used will not hold a charge at all.
I hope to meet with a friend this evening to see if his charger will charge
either of my batteries with my Newton and to see if his charger will charge
either of my batteries with his Newton. If I can get a charge on the
batteries I'll send them with him to see what kind of life they get in his
Newton.
More on this when I see him.
Any Ideas,
TIA
RobertRuff
