I got my emate right before spring quarter last school year and have always
been happy with it. It is not upgraded but works great for notetaking and
word processing on the go. For these activities I don't think you will miss
the upgrade that much. (assuming you are using the keyboard which is much
quicker then relying on HWR) it's easy to pass data back and forth between
the emate and your desktop so as long you are just keeping the data you are
currently using on the emate you should be fine.
Having said all that I am very interested where all this talk about a
production run of new upgrades may lead because I'd love to have the power
to trying surfing and maybe playing with wireless networking with my green
buddy.
