I tried Grafitti (back when there was no choice) and
found that you cannot construct sentences using this
method. Individual words, fine...but if your brain
runs faster than a wind-up toy, you'll be 10 words
ahead of your Grafitti limited writing. And because it
is so different, your thought process spends too much
time creating your writing rather than writing what
you're creating...a completly wrong way to work.
Additionally (my own theory) is that a machine
(especially a PERSONAL assistant) should adapt it's
self to you...there is no reason why you, the human
being, should adapt to the operations of a machine.
Machines are supposed to reduce the burden of modern
society, not add to it! AND!!! I think that the theory
that your handwriting reflects your personality, then
it should be true that you should gain insights into
someone's personality through their handwriting. But
what happens if you have to modify your handwriting to
fit the nature of a machine? Does the person become
nothing more than an extension of the automatron they
are attempting to use? This becomes especially true
with the Grafitti letter styles.
My handwriting has not changed since the 7th grade,
over 25 years ago! It was (is) so bad that my english
teacher said she would fail me if I turned in a
handwritten paper again. Since that time, everything I
ever did was typed! Until the mid 90s when I got a
Newton. With a little training and juicious
expansions, I found the Newt more than adequete in
understanding my handwriting...which had be
illustriously identified in my highschool yearbook as
an "incrackable code". It was joked that my
handwriting could be use as a form of encryption and
that if I go overseas, I would not be allowed to write
anything in my own handwriting for fear of exporting a
munition!
Contrary to popular belief, I have not in the very
least, modified my handwriting in order to make it
easier for the Newt to recognize. Except for going to
printed instead of cursive...(heck, most times, I
couldn't even read my own cursive writing) My printed
writing isn't much better...I tend to leave off key
features of letters). But the Newton rewards my
handwriting with at least a 99% recognition! Yay Newt!
