The utility which downloads data from a Palm expects it to be in a certain
format. This format is known, as evidenced by the open source
synchronisation utilities out there. The synch utils also know what data
to send to the Palm to start the synch procedure, and they know what
pulses to listen for that represent a go-ahead, a failure, et al. A
NewtonOS application can listen for those same signals ("synch request",
"status", "go ahead", "error") and respond as required. If you can listen
for it, it stands to reason that you know _what to listen for_. Working
from one of these utilities could supply the necessary responses the
Newton would have to send.
