Actually, there are several //gs emulators for mac, windows and unix. It is
possible to run emulators within emulators. I've seen someone run a mac emulator
within softwindows, for example. It's slow, but it works.
As far as the //gs, it is a great machine. I have had several over the years,
including a heavily upgraded on in the late 1980s. They run GS/OS, but also run
prodos and dos 3.3 quite well. The only problems with games under dos 3.3 was that
some of them didn't recognize the speed switch built into the rom and ran too
fast.
